My Story
My name is Sara Rabbitt and I am the founder of Hopping Tunes Music Therapy. I have always loved music. I started singing and learning how to play instruments at a young age but I fell in love with music therapy in my adolescents. In 2017, when I was a junior in high school, I experienced a concussion that changed my daily life significantly. I missed school, was limited in my daily activities and spent most of my free time at various doctors appointments. My concussion triggered an autoimmune disease called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. I was unable to walk for months due to my immune system attacking healthy tissue in my left foot. I went from healthy and happy to frustrated and hurting. I sacrificed time and energy during my adolescents to support my body in becoming healthy again. This physical experience greatly impacted my mental health. I struggled with feelings of anxiety about my future and depression about the differences in my life compared to my peers. During my time of healing, I turned to music. I started to learn guitar and spend time songwriting as a way to cope with my health experiences.
In 2018, I had the privilege of meeting a music therapy at Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital. I was given the opportunity to shadow her and experience the day to day life of a music therapist in the pediatric setting. I witnessed the pure magic of music. Learning about music therapy caused my passion for music to grow. In 2019, I committed to an education in music therapy and took the first steps to becoming a music therapist. I am truly grateful for my experiences leading me to my career as a board certified music therapist. I look forward to continuing to share the magic of music.
